Nasolabial Folds: Looking Beyond the Smile Line

The lines running from the sides of the nose towards the corners of the mouth are called nasolabial folds. They are a normal part of facial anatomy and often become more noticeable with expression or changes in facial structure. This original Star Aesthetics reel is captioned ‘Nasolabial folds filler’ and shows a side-by-side comparison.

Why the surrounding face matters

A smile line is not an isolated feature. Cheek support, skin quality, movement and your natural facial shape influence its appearance. Assessment should consider these factors before discussing whether filler is suitable or where it might be used.

The goal is not necessarily to erase a normal fold. Ask what a realistic, proportionate change might look like for your face and whether alternatives or no treatment would better match your priorities.

Reading comparison images carefully

The original reel can help start a conversation, but it does not provide a complete treatment record. We do not know the product, amount, exact technique or time between images from the caption alone. Lighting, facial expression and camera angle can also affect how a fold appears.

Ask to see examples relevant to your concern and discuss how results are assessed after recovery. A photograph should never be treated as a prediction of your own outcome.

What to ask before treatment

Discuss previous fillers, medical history, risks, costs and aftercare. Dermal filler can cause bruising and swelling, and rare vascular complications need urgent attention. Make sure you understand the clinic’s follow-up arrangements and emergency contact advice before proceeding.
